Tetanus can have severe symptoms and one of it is the bending of the back, also referred to as opisthotonus. The involuntary bending of back is a consequence of back tension resulting from muscle spasms. If the muscle spasms resulting from tetanus infection becomes very severe, it can even cause certain bones to fracture and dislocate certain joints. The earlier the symptoms will show, the more severe the infection is, which is why early discovery and treatment are important. Furthermore, the prognosis for tetanus is often bleak, so it requires adequate prevention and treatment.
