5. Trismus
More commonly known as “lockjaw”, trismus is also a common symptom of tetanus infection. This condition will make it difficult for the patient to open his or her jaw, which is a resulting symptom due to muscle spasm. As mentioned, tetanus is an infection that can cause widespread muscle spasms, which makes it difficult to control some parts of the body including the jaws. Sometimes, the jaw will suddenly open or close and will become numb. It is important to seek immediate medical attention because there are cases when the loss of control will extend to the lungs and this can lead to death.
