2. Pain and Weakness in Hands or Feet
One of the most common forms of neuropathy is known as diabetic peripheral neuropathy and often occurs in diabetic patients. A common symptom of diabetic peripheral neuropathy to look out for is pain and weakness in peripheral limbs. People experiencing diabetic peripheral neuropathy often feel numbness in their feet. Sometimes, the same sensations can also be felt in the hands.
This numbness, or the loss of sensation, increases the chance of injury in affected areas. Pain is our body’s way to signal a problem that we should be aware of. When someone with diabetes cannot feel their feet well, they cannot feel pain. This can cause blisters or other injuries that may be left untreated if the numb feeling persists.
