6. Voice Changes
Aside from dysarthria or experiencing slurred speech, another myasthenia gravis symptom that appears when the muscles that are responsible for creating sounds in our vocal cords are affected, is dysphonia. It is characterized by having a voice that is far from normal. It can sometimes be mistaken as hoarseness or huskiness in the voice caused by other illnesses as they have the same signs.
As dysarthria affects younger patients, dysphonia on the other hand is more prominent with patients in older age groups. The usual cause of dysphonia would be the weakening of the muscles in our palate. It can also be genetic or can be a result of stress.
