3. Difficulty Chewing
Having diffuculty chewing is also a sign and symptom of myasthenia gravis. Different body muscles are affected by impaired nerve cell transmission, and one of them would be the muscles that are responsible for chewing or mastication. People who have myasthenia gravis may experience extremely weak and frailty jaws that are often difficult to move up and down.
This symptom results in the patient not being able to chew properly without assistance from the hands especially with foods that are harder and more solid. Patients are usually advised to temporarily switch their diets to softer food choices or even transition into a total liquid diet to sustain the nutrients the body needs.
