5. Spoon Shaped or Brittle Fingernails
One of the most uncommon signs you have anemia is when your fingernails grow into a spoon shape or become very brittle. This condition is referred to as koilonychia. The first signs are when your nails become brittle and start cracking easily. As your anemia progresses to the later stages, your nails may begin to grow in a spoon shape.
The edges become raised and the middle of your nails start to dip. The result is a round appearance similar to the shape of a spoon. This is fairly uncommon. You will only develop this symptom if you have severe iron deficiency anemia.
