Anal fistulas are among the major reasons why blood is present in the stool. When a small tunnel-like passage develops between the anus and its outer skin, it causes different adverse effects such as bloody stools. Anal fistulas are mostly a side effect of an abscess or a build-up of pus in the anus.

Some symptoms that may help you distinguish if you have anal fistulas are irritation in the anus, pulsating, or beating pain in the anus especially when moving or sitting down, unpleasant discharge, difficulty in bowel movement, blood in the stools, and even fever on severe cases.
