Pre-mixed Insulin Requires A Regular Meal Schedule

Deciding to take a pre-mixed insulin treatment also means flexibility is not an option. Unlike the multi-dose insulin, pre-mixed follows a strict peak time in order to be at its best effectiveness. The best candidates for this treatment would be those who follow regular meal schedules in a day like eating three complete meals every day. If you are under a pre-mixed insulin treatment, you should be eating a regular breakfast, lunch and dinner or even have snack on the sides during the night. It is advised not to skip any meals and any insulin doses.

Always remember that your insulin intake during breakfast would have a peak or climax time in the next 4 to 5 hours, so you need to eat the next meal during those hours. Forgetting the proper time for lunch can put you at risk of having too low blood sugar levels because your first insulin intake in the morning would still be working through the day. This is also the reason why it is advised to eat night time snack because the effect of insulin is still working within those hours.
