The Role of Phosphorus in Our Body

After calcium, phosphorus is the next mineral found in abundance in the human body. That's because the body needs phosphorus for several functions such as filtering waste and repairing body cells and tissues. Phosphorus is also needed to:

  • Build strong and healthy bones

  • Eliminate waste matter in the kidneys

  • Manage the way the body stores and uses energy

Phosphorus can be easily obtained through the food we eat. An excess of this mineral in our blood can indicate kidney disease or when one's diet contains too much of phosphorus-rich foods that are not balanced by an equal amount of calcium.
