Diabetic Neuropathy: Prevention

Anyone diagnosed with diabetes is subceptible to diabetic neuropathy. However, there measure that can be taken to reduce the risk of diabetic neuropathy:

  • Blood pressure should be kept within normal levels. Check it often.

  • Limit sugar and carbohydrates intake to keep blood sugar levels under control. Check it often.

  • Eat nutritious food comprising whole grains, vegetables and fruits.

  • Reduce portion sizes so that your weight falls within acceptable limits.

  • Lead a physically active life as this will protect your heart and increase your blood flow to keep your blood pressure and blood sugar under control. Exercising 30 minutes a day for five days a week is recommended.

  • Stop smoking.
