Granola

Granola, a hearty mixture containing oats, nuts, seeds and dried fruit, sounds like a wholesome meal... Well, it can be if it wasn't baked with canola oil, butter, honey and maple syrup. Unfortunately, the coated sugar and fat render granola a bad breakfast choice from diabetics. 1 cup of granola and 1/2 cup skim milk adds up to 105 grams of carbs.

Tip: Choose a diabetic-friendly product such as muesli or wheat-bran based cereal.
