Another medicinal herb from the ginger family, turmeric contains a polyphenol known as curcumin responsible for the herb's bright orange. Other than its color, curcumin also contributes in preventing the development of type 2 diabetes in prediabetic patients. It was found that curcumin was very effective in improving the activity of beta-cells in the pancreas, hence normalizing insulin levels.
Curcumin also has anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and antioxidizing properties which strengthen the immune system and protect against infections and viruses which diabetics are prone to.
Tip: Aim for at least 250g of turmeric daily.
