Waking up to a bowl of breakfast cereals is almost customary in the American culture. Somehow these crunchy cereals have a unique ability to make us feel healthy. On the contrary, most breakfast cereals contain high amount of refined carbohydrates, sugar and fat which increase blood sugar levels in both prediabetic and diabetics. It is important to read the detailed nutrition labels before purchasing as even those products claiming to be low-in-sugar can be relatively high in sugar content.
Tip: Choose whole grain cereals with no more than 8-10g of sugar per serving and always avoid cereals with dried fruit.
