Sugar Substitutes: Raw Honey

The bees and flowers are working overtime to provide us with honey in 300 varieties – each with its distinct flavor according to its source of nectar. Raw honey has powerful antioxidants that help eliminate free radicals causing damage to cells. It also contain antibacterial properties to ward off infections, help boost our immune system and aid weight loss. Raw honey is easily digested by the body and are better energy source than most forms of carbohydrates. A clinical study conducted to investigate the effects on raw honey consumption on diabetic patients found that over a course of 8 weeks, patients who were given raw honey in addition to their normal diet displayed significant reduction in body weight and blood lipids. However, raw honey does not help to reduce blood sugar levels and contain more calories than sugar.
