As a diabetes patient, the simplest thing you can do to preserve good oral hygiene is to keep a daily regimen which should include brushing your teeth—with a soft toothbrush—at least twice daily; flossing once a day; and rinsing with a mouthwash that is antiseptic after brushing and flossing.
The antiseptic mouthwash—you can also get a prescription for such a mouthwash—kills off bacteria that thrives in saliva. Also, if you smoke talk to your doctor about ways to quit. Smoking impairs blood flow which causes slower healing along your gum line.
