Increased Dental Problems for Diabetics

Thickening blood vessels caused by diabetes decreased the flow of nutrients to body tissue such as the gums which also slows the body’s ability to remove waste products from body tissues leading to reduce strength to fight off infections and can lead to serious gum inflammation issues periodontitis and gingivitis.

Diabetics routinely use antibiotics and some of these medications are prone to creating a fungal infection of the mouth—thrush— if oral care is inadequate. Out of control diabetes leads to decreased saliva and can result in dry mouth, which can cause soreness, and even worse, tooth decay.
