Alzheimer's could just be a brain complication of diabetes

Many medical experts also believed that Alzheimer's could simply be another complication of diabetes. Some theories include:

  • The inflammation and oxidative stress caused by diabetes may damage the brain's neuron leading to cognitive dysfunction.

  • Diabetes affect the blood vessels which increases the risk for stroke and heart disease. Similarly, when the diabetes causes damage to the blood vessels in the brain, it could cause Alzheimer’s disease.

Although more studies are ongoing to determine the cause of Alzheimer's, doctors are certain that insulin or high blood pressure is capable of damaging the brain to a certain extent. It is advisable for diabetes patients to lead a healthy lifestyle to keep blood sugars under control and prevent the onset of complications.
