Eye disease (Diabetic Retinopathy)

It's very common for diabetics to develop some form of eye disease that lowers their capacity to see or renders them blind. The chief causes of this condition are constant high blood pressure, high blood glucose levels and high cholesterol.

Preventative steps
To prevent Diabetic Retinopathy, one should control one's blood sugar levels by eating nutritious food and monitoring blood sugar levels, exercising, taking insulin medicines and controlling blood pressure. Periodic eye examinations and visiting an ophthalmologist for changes in vision can also help catch problems early. Smoking and avoiding dangerous activities like contact sports or carrying heavy loads should be avoided.
