Fatty Red Meat

Although consuming red meat does not directly impact bipolar disorder, it plays a part in related symptoms and later complications. Along with their mood fluctuations, bipolar patients also struggle with weight gain as a by product of high sugar/carbohydrate intake, sedentariness, binge eating and side effects of medications. Red meat is known to be high in saturated fat. Cutting down on red meat thereby reduces risk of obesity, heart diseases and type 2 diabetes. In addition, some research have also linked red meat with irritable bowel syndrome and irritability which conribute to mood fluctuations.

Tip: Choose white and lean meat or plant-based proteins.
