Another common self-medication in bipolar patients, alcohol is frequently consumed for its sedative effects. Bipolar patients are inclined to use alcohol to numb their depression and soothe their mania; sometimes resulting in alcohol abuse in the long run. Nonetheless, alcohol is only a temporary cure of their frenzy. Additionally, despite its sedative effects, alcohol is essentially a depressant which in turn worsen the depression. Alcohol is also found to be incompatible to bipolar medications.
Tip: Avoid alcohol for more control of your emotions.
