Tracking Your Carbohydrates Intake with Diabetes

Counting Carbohydrates

Counting carbohydrates might be daunting at first, but it gets easier with time. Before starting each meal, you have to first count carbs per gram, followed by all carbohydrates count of your meal. For instance, 3/4 cup of cereal will be equivalent to 22 grams of carbs, so you will count that as 22 grams of carbohydrates, instead of counting them as one exchange like what you would do in the Exchange Meal. With time, you will become familiar with the carbohydrates count of the usual food that you eat.

Counting carbohydrates is much more reliable since it is more precise, and is therefore ideal for those who take insulin in accordance to the amount of carbohydrate they take.
