Marijuana and Its Side Effects

That being said, like any other sedative, marijuana has side effects to be addressed and considered before its use as medicine.

    1. Although marijuana is known to help maintain blood pressure after prolonged use, it is also known to increase the flow of blood and elevate heart rate after smoking. This, along with the fact that high blood pressure is a symptom associated with diabetes, means that this side effect of marijuana could be incompatible with diabetes.

    2. Long term use of marijuana leads to lung diseases and can even lead to severe problems in breathing.

    3. The cannabinoids present in the drug make it harder for the body to fight infections and cure itself.

Conclusively, marijuana does have the potential of being the next breakthrough medicine for diabetes. However, its use as medicine remains debatable due to the lack of development and research. More work is certainly needed before any endorsement is made.
