Back in 2004, a study in Diabetes Care showed that just an ounce of walnuts in included in the diet of people with type 2 diabetes can increase good cholesterol and improve cardiovascular health by preventing the risks of heart disease. The subjects comprised 58 men and women who were given a traditional low-fat diet, a modified low-fat one, and a modified low-fat diet with an ounce of walnuts, regularly. 6 months later, the results showed that the 3rd group with low-fat walnut diet had higher levels of good cholesterol.
