depression

Do you experience an extended period of uncontrollable sadness unexpectedly?

It is unnatural for a person to be sad for days or even weeks with no actual cause or reason. A normal functioning brain, under normal circumstances, would sense our emotions and produce a balanced proportion of neurotransmitters which moderates our mood. Hence, being moody for no reason and with no control is often the first symptom of depression caused by a brain dysfunction.

On the other hand, a person one undergoing a life changing situation such as unemployment, contracting a chronic disease or condition, or marriage failure can also experience sadness over an extended period of time. Yet, he or she may not be diagnosed with chronic depression.
