Also known as rhinosinusitis, a sinus infection is the type of infection that affects the sinuses. Some of the most common signs of a sinus infection are headache, nasal congestion, sinus pain, postnasal drip, nasal discharge, sore throat, fever, and hoarse voice.

Sinus infection is usually due to virus,  bacteria, or fungi exposure. However, there are many other medical conditions which can cause sinus infection. Here are 10 common causes of a sinus infection.

1. Respiratory Tract Infections

Respiratory tract infection is a common cause of sinus infection. A respiratory tract infection is a type of infection that affects the upper portion of the respiratory system, which is usually due to an acute infection that involves the sinuses, nose, larynx, or pharynx, and can trigger sinusitis or sinus infection. Respiratory tract infections are common during a certain time of the year, usually between the months of September and March, although it is possible to develop common colds at any time of the year.

Some of the most common symptoms of a respiratory tract infection are runny nose or stuffy nose, sore throat or scratchy throat, coughing, fever, and sneezing. If these symptoms will go on for a week, then there is a good chance that the patient has developed a sinus infection.
