Why Is Magnesium Deficiency Common In Prediabetics And Diabetics?

When blood glucose levels shoot up really high and the kidneys lose their ability to retain magnesium. This leads to an over secretion of magnesium in the urine. Losing magnesium in this manner leads to hypomagnesemia or a condition in which there are abnormally low levels of magnesium in the blood. Moreover, insulin resistance lowers the cellular uptake of magnesium and therefore the intercellular levels consequently become abnormally low.
