Fats

Fats have double the amount of calories in comparison to carbohydrates and proteins. Fats should give only 25-35% of the daily calorie intake of a person. People with Type 2 Diabetes, however, need to restrict the intake of unhealthy saturated fats and thus needs to restrict the consumption of butter, cheese and/or the solid fat part of red meat

Proteins

Proteins stabilize blood sugar levels as they digest slowly and should contribute to about 12-20% of the daily calorie intake. Salt intake should be restricted as people with Type 2 Diabetes also have high blood pressure.
