Aged Cheese

Aged cheese is high in tyramine which is directly linked to blood pressure. Abnormally high level of tyramine leads to a fatal high blood pressure condition. Now coming to the point with bipolar, tyramine is incompatible with the anti-depressant medication, Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) which is occasionally prescribed for depression episodes. As a side effect, this medication blocks our body enzymes from regulating tyramine levels hence leading to hypertensive crisis. Additionally, cheese is also associated with migraines which can worsen the mood disorder.

Tip: Have slices of avocado in your sandwich instead of cheese! Have a guacamole dip instead of nacho cheese!
