A study done in 2001 revealed that bipolar patients who had undergone 2 months of acupuncture treatment saw vast improvements in their condition and were able to significanltly reduce their dosage of medication. Through this ancient chinese therapy, doctors found that patients were better at stress management and showed less symptoms of mania. It was believed that the acupunture treatment activated the productions of endorphins, in the central nervous system, which were otherwise produced in abnormal quantities. Hence, it helped to regulated mood swings in the patients.
Tip: Acupuncture should be used a adjunctive treatment but not as a substitution to medication or psychotherapy.
